Samvid Group: Three Entities, One Identity — a Cross-Linked Ecosystem Without Cannibalising Trust
Samvid operates three entities that must not be confused: Samvid Ventures backs founders, Samvid Philanthropies builds inclusive economies, and Samvid Scholars funds mission-driven graduate students — up to $100,000 over two years, on a hard application deadline. Envion designed the ecosystem so credibility transfers without unification erasing the difference: a dual-logo header between Ventures and Philanthropies, Scholars endorsing upward in its footer, each site ordered by the questions its audience actually asks, and a seasonal application banner with three states a programme manager can flip without a developer. Ecosystem IA, cross-site navigation, UI system, and the WordPress build.

The challenge
Samvid operates three things that must not be confused. Samvid Ventures backs founders — audience: startup founders, co-investors, press. Samvid Philanthropies builds inclusive economies — audience: grantees, nonprofit partners, policy people. Samvid Scholars funds and develops mission-driven graduate students, up to $100,000 over two years — audience: individual students on a hard application deadline.
The design tension is sharp. Too much separation and the group loses the credibility transfer — a scholar applicant doesn't see the venture-scale seriousness behind the programme. Too much unification and it reads as a VC fund handing out scholarships, a materially different and less trusted proposition to a grantee or an applicant.
There is a second, unglamorous problem: Scholars is seasonal. The application opens in February and closes on a fixed date in April. For eight months of the year the primary CTA doesn't exist — a site that says "Apply Now" in October is worse than useless.
Decision path
Discovery started with audience-overlap mapping: founders rarely care about Scholars; grantees sometimes care about Ventures' portfolio as a credibility signal; scholar applicants care intensely about who is behind the money. The traffic is directional, not mutual — mostly flowing toward the parent, not out from it. Applicant journey reconstruction showed graduate applicants arrive with three questions in a fixed order — Am I eligible? What do I get? When is it due? — and anything above that in the IA is friction. A competitive scan of major fellowship sites (Knight-Hennessy, Schwarzman, Soros) benchmarked deadline presentation and eligibility clarity.
The core navigation decision: a dual-logo header, not a group-switcher dropdown. Ventures and Philanthropies each carry both marks in the masthead — the local brand at full weight, the sibling adjacent and clickable — a peer relationship costing one click instead of two. Scholars is treated differently on purpose: it carries only its own logotype and endorses upward in the footer — "Powered by Samvid Philanthropies" — placing the credibility signal where it answers the question ("who's behind this?") rather than where it competes for attention.
Envion contribution
Envion designed the ecosystem IA, the cross-site navigation model, the UI system, the seasonal content states, and delivered the WordPress build — a shared parent theme with per-entity child themes.
Key UI decisions: each entity opens with a single sentence of purpose typeset with the light qualifier and the heavy payload in different weights — one pattern, three voices, the strongest unifier across the ecosystem at zero build complexity. On Scholars, a three-pillar value block runs Leadership Development, Community, Financial Support — money deliberately last, because applicant research showed the funding is assumed and the differentiator is the two-year programme; leading with $100,000 would attract volume and reduce fit. The Scholars nav is ordered to match the applicant's question sequence exactly: what it is → how to get it → who's already in → what's happening → how to reach a human. Photography discipline keeps the ecosystem distinct-but-coherent: documentary imagery for Philanthropies, restrained typography for Ventures, cohort photography for Scholars — same grid, same type scale, different register. On Ventures, search sits in the primary nav as a real utility, because Portfolio and News are the pages people arrive looking for something specific in.
Delivery
The seasonal state is a first-class component, not a content edit. The Scholars top line is a live status banner with three states — upcoming, open, closed: "The 2027 Samvid Scholars Application will open in February 2027" out of window, open/close dates plus the apply CTA in window. One editable component, so a non-technical programme manager can flip it without touching a page builder. This removed the single largest source of applicant confusion and support email.
The build runs on WordPress with a shared parent theme and per-entity child themes — one design system, three maintained sites, no forking of the fundamentals.
Outcome and evidence
All three sites are live: samvid.ventures, samvidphil.org, samvidscholars.org. Applications, apply-click rates, cross-site referral traffic, and support-email reduction are measured by the client's own analytics rather than asserted here.
The named next steps: an eligibility pre-check on Scholars — three questions, instant yes/no/maybe — to reduce ineligible submissions and give the programme team a top-of-funnel dataset; and a filterable Portfolio on Ventures, the highest-intent page for co-investors, by sector and stage rather than a flat grid.
